Background

The finishing, cleaning and care of parquet and wooden floors has been LOBA's core business for over 100 years. The company employs around 110 people at its headquarters in Ditzingen, plus subsidiaries in Brazil and China and joint ventures with Wakol in Poland and North America. Since 2018, LOBA has been part of the international ARDEX Group with over 4,000 employees and offers customers in over 60 countries technical excellence, high-quality products and a unique service experience. A significant generational change begins in 2021: Managing Partner and founder's son Michael Fischer hands over the reins to the two new Managing Directors Alfred Melka and Mario Probst.

Task

What remains? What changes? What do we want to start? These are the key questions that the two new managing directors are asking themselves as they look ahead to the new decade, with the proud history of a hundred-year-old family business behind them. The right “flight altitude” of a corporate strategy for successful management and a focus on content in line with the corporate culture needs to be developed and worked out. The other members of the management circle are to be closely involved in the transformation process on their own responsibility.

Solution

When designing the process, attention is paid to providing sufficient space for exchange, discussion, deepening, friction, finding solutions and making decisions. The targeted workshops, which build on each other, contribute to effective further development:

  1. Kick-off meeting with all 3 managing directors: recording the company's DNA and clarifying the mission
  2. Full-day workshop with new management duo to collect and develop the content basis for the corporate strategy
  3. Half-day workshop with new management duo to integrate the strategy into the ARDEX Group and decide on a course of action
  4. Two-day workshop with management circle: Finalization of four guidelines for action and processing of eight strategic topics as sponsor groups, which then take over the in-depth development of their content
  5. Two-day workshop with management circle: consolidation and finalization of the eight topic areas with a 2030 perspective, derivation of a roadmap with concrete goals, empowerment for independent management and implementation
